Program Review - Frontline Phonics

Frontline Phonics is a home study program designed to help parents teach pre school and kindergarten aged children learn to read in a fun and effective way.The program requires parents to work with their children. Extensive research shows that children learn best when given the kind of individual attention that parents provide.

Studies sponsored by the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development (NICHD) have stressed that phonics learning is an essential element of beginning reading programs. Children cannot learn to read without an understanding of phonics. All children must know their ABCs and the sounds that letters make in order to communicate verbally.

Adults should keep in mind that children may learn to read at different paces during kindergarten and first grade. This is true for all children, including those with special needs and those from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds.

Classroom studies have shown that children prepared to read early with balanced phonics programs perform well above grade level standards.
